What in the world?
While I was looking at that awesome article about the sloth, inoticed this. It seems that a giant blob has been found underneath Nevada.
Last year, Arizona State University Allen McNamara explained how Earth is not neatly divided into a crust, mantle and core. Rather, several large blobs of highly compressed rock — which he described as behaving like honey or peanut butter — exist.
This is amazing, and it reminds me that I need to get to work on explaining supervolcano to the people. I will do this soon.
